The Boston Red Sox have talented leverage relievers, but they’ve gotten a lot of work in recent weeks and faltered in big spots with the team around .500.

They need help and probably need another leverage reliever at the trade deadline. For now, pitching prospect Luis Guerrero should absolutely be in the big-league bullpen to help out consistently.

Guerrero has 14 MLB innings under his belt. He has not allowed an earned run in that span to go along with 12 strikeouts. His four-pitch mix, headlined by a high-velocity fastball, plays in the bullpen and can give a different look and a needed break for arms such as Garrett Whitlock, Greg Weissert, and Justin Slaten.

His numbers in Triple-A Worcester won’t jump off the page this season, but his stuff plays, and he’s shown no reason not to get a shot when he’s been up with the Red Sox. His abilities in late-inning situations can help keep relievers fresh and give Alex Cora another option as Boston tries to break free from .500 play.
