NESN, New England’s premier sports network, was named Regional Sports Network of the Year at the 2025 Cynopsis Sports Media Awards, earning the recognition for its transformation, innovation, and leadership in regional sports broadcasting.
NESN’s 40th anniversary was a standout year, as the network doubled down on its commitment to fan engagement, accessibility, and innovation — driving record growth and positioning itself at the forefront of the evolving sports media landscape. NESN expanded distribution, including the launch of its first FAST Channel, introduced new, innovative programming formats, enhanced production with new technology, and invested further in women’s sports.
“This recognition reflects an extraordinary year by an extraordinary team that continues to be unrelenting in driving NESN forward,” said David Wisnia, President & CEO of NESN & SportsNet Pittsburgh. “In a time of profound disruption and opportunity across the media landscape, we’ve reimagined what a regional sports network can be. As the landscape evolves, we’re proud to continue leading the way and remain strategically focused on what’s next in sports media.”
NESN was recognized for its achievements over the last year:
- Expanding access through innovative platforms, including the launch of NESN NATION, the network’s FAST channel, with 35 hours of live and original content each week. Meanwhile, NESN 360, the network’s direct-to-consumer platform, reached a major milestone, achieving profitability and a 24% increase in subscribers in 2024. Most recently, subscriber growth surged 101% at the start of the 2025 Red Sox season — further cementing its position as one of the most successful direct-to-consumer platforms in regional sports.
- Delivering new programming formats that deepen fans’ connections to their teams, including “Unobstructed Views,” an alternate broadcast led by former players and analysts, and MultiView telecasts, offering multiple camera angles and perspectives to enhance the live game experience. NESN also released a four-part documentary on the Boston Bruins, expanded its vodcast offerings to cover a broad range of sports topics, and began live streaming Red Sox batting practice, Bruins morning skates, and Bruins pregame skates. In 2025, the network continued introducing innovative content with the debut of “The Mindset,” a new multi-part docuseries.
- Investing in and elevating women’s sports and female voices across its platforms through the launch of the Women of NESN (WON) initiative. The network made history with the first all-female Red Sox broadcast and the first all-female-led production of the Women’s Beanpot, while broadcasting more than 140 women’s sports events, including PWHL and collegiate matchups.
- Enhancing production infrastructure by implementing a new virtual control room for increased flexibility and upgrading its content management systems to streamline delivery across both linear and digital platforms.
The Cynopsis Sports Media Awards honor excellence across production, marketing, and tech in the sports industry. NESN stood out among top-tier regional sports networks for its ability to connect with fans and evolve with the industry.
