On Sunday the Boston Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Kyle Harrison, Jordan Hicks and two prospects.

Despite Devers being unhappy with the Red Sox wanting to move him to first base, the 28-year-old reportedly didn’t ask for a trade, as reported by MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.

“This does not mean (Devers) was against it,” Cotillo said. “Breslow felt it was in the best interest of the team to move on and Devers, who had clearly been unhappy for months, may very well have, too. The anger he felt about the way the (front office) treated him was real.”

After spending a majority of his MLB career at third base, the Red Sox front office moved him to the designated hitter position after acquiring third baseman Alex Bregman. Devers was unhappy with the decision but grew more unhappy when Boston wanted to move him again.

After Triston Casas’ season-ending knee injury, the Red Sox requested that Devers move to first base but he told the front office no.

Now with the trade, Boston still will need to figure out the situation as first base with no player on the current roster set at that position.
