The Boston Bruins’ season is only three weeks old, but it’s already been quite the rollercoaster ride.

After starting 3-0, the Bruins promptly lost six in a row, crashing back to earth in stunning fashion. Four of those losses were by one goal, making their losing streak even more frustrating.

Boston bounced back over the last week, however, winning three of four heading into the weekend. The Bruins are now 6-7, which is probably where many people thought they would be, but it’s been a wild ride to get there.

Has Boston turned the corner, especially after getting star defenseman Hampus Lindholm back from injury? Head coach Marco Sturm isn’t so sure.

“Turn the corner – I don’t like that. We gotta realize who we are, first of all, right? We’re not like an elite-lite-lite team. I think right now, we’re in a good spot. Can we be better? Yes…As a coach, I wanna them to see it the way I want them to play. And I think we’re heading definitely in the right direction,” Sturm said after Thursday’s 4-3 overtime win against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Bruins narrowly avoided collapse against the Sabres. After blowing a 3-1 lead in the third period at home and losing Elias Lindholm to a lower-body injury, Marat Khusnutdinov won the game in overtime with his first goal of the season.

Boston’s been great at home, winning three straight home games and going 5-3 at TD Garden. It’s also won both of its overtime games so far.

The Bruins have struggled on the road, however, losing four straight away games since its season-opening win in Washington, D.C. They need to start playing better on the road and be more consistent in general if they want to compete for a playoff spot.

Boston hosts the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday and will try to get back to .500 for the first time in two weeks.
