The Boston Red Sox reportedly are linked to Alex Bregman, and a newcomer could help them in that pursuit.

Walker Buehler and Bregman faced off in the World Series, but the World Series champions teamed up this year as owners of a three-year-old colt that won for the first time at Santa Anita on Friday.

March of Time defeated four rivals by 2 1/4 lengths to win a six-furlong sprint race worth $60,000 that was designated for horses that have never won, per the Associated Press. March of Time was trained by the well-renowned Bob Baffert.

It’s an interesting connection between the All-Stars and came at an interesting time after the Red Sox signed Buehler. Bregman reportedly is one of Boston’s top goals after locking up Buehler. Manager Alex Cora voiced his praise for the former Houston Astros infielder at the MLB winter meetings. And Buehler could be another help in the recruiting pitch to his fellow two-time World Series champion in Boston.

It might seem odd, but the ownership of a three-old-colt might be the difference in the Red Sox’s chances to sign Bregman.
