The Red Sox have shown interest in reuniting with a player they traded just one season ago.

In order to acquire Garrett Crochet in a blockbuster trade last offseason, the Red Sox dealt catching prospect Kyle Teel to the Chicago White Sox. Fast-forward one year later and the Red Sox apparently could try to reunite with Teel.

“In an ironic twist, Teel is once again a trade candidate this winter after debuting in 2025 — and the Red Sox have shown at least some interest in bringing him back,” MassLive’s Sean McAdam and Chris Cotillo wrote from Winter Meetings on Monday.

At the time he was traded, Teel ranked as the franchise’s No. 4 prospect and No. 25 in baseball, per MLB.com. A first-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, Teel went on to hit .273 with eight homers and 35 RBIs in 78 games with the White Sox.

“Re-acquiring Teel is easier said than done for the Red Sox, especially because Chicago might demand a very high price to effectively undo a major deal that altered the futures of both clubs,” MassLive wrote. “But because the White Sox have two young catchers in Teel and Edgar Quero, they’re entertaining the possibility of trading one.”

Boston reportedly inquired about a reunion during the summer, but the two sides are not anywhere close to a deal.

The Athletic reported last month teams were “asking” about Teel.
