Rob Refsnyder might be flying under the radar in comparison to Alex Bregman’s decision, the desire to add an impactful bat as well as the moves that have bolstered Boston’s rotation.
But the veteran outfielder, who spent the last four seasons with the Red Sox, reportedly isn’t going unnoticed on the open market.
“There has long been mutual interest in a reunion between the Red Sox and veteran outfielder Rob Refsnyder, who has become one of the club’s leaders in recent years,” MassLive’s Sean McAdam and Chris Cotillo wrote from the Winter Meetings in Orlando.
The mutual interest doesn’t guarantee the 34-year-old will remain with the Red Sox, however.
“Refsnyder has a healthy market that includes other American League contenders who are expected to push for his services,” MassLive wrote Monday. “The expectation, according to a league source, is that the 34-year-old might even be in play for a two-year deal.

“Boston is prioritizing bigger bats but could still use Refsnyder as a lefty-mashing fourth outfielder. They’re not alone in seeing his value.”

Refsnyder’s impact in the clubhouse is well-documented, along with the fact he made the most of his opportunity in Alex Cora’s lineup when the situation presented itself.
While the Red Sox currently have depth in the grass with Roman Anthony, Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela and Masataka Yoshida, Boston could give itself some options should it retain Refsynder.
