Kyle Schwarber is reportedly re-signing with the Philadelphia Philles, despite loads of rumors linking the Boston Red Sox to the designated hitter.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora discussed the team’s pursuit of Schwarber on Tuesday and said he wasn’t surprised the slugger decided to return to Philadelphia.
“Cora says the Sox had talked to Schwarber during his free agency among talks with ‘a lot of people.’ Cora said he’s unsurprised Schwarber re-upped with the Phillies. ‘Good for him. He deserved it,'” Alex Speier of the Boston Globe posted on Bluesky.
Cora was in his first season of his second tenure at the helm in Boston when the Red Sox originally acquired Schwarber in a trade with the Washington Nationals in July 2021.

The duo helped Boston to a 92-70 finish and run to the ALCS that fall, with Cora finishing fifth in the AL Manager of the Year voting that season.
Schwarber registered seven home runs, 18 RBIs and .291/.435/.522 slash line across 134 at-bats covering 41 regular season games with the Red Sox, adding three homers and six runs driven over 11 playoff contests as well.
With the NL home run champion now off the market, Boston could shift their focus back to adding to the starting rotation, though recent reports have said that the team’s main priority remains re-signing third baseman Alex Bregman.
