Startling allegations against University of Louisville men’s basketball program were made public Friday.

Details from “Breaking Cardinal Rules: Basketball and the Escort Queen” were published on the Indianapolis Business Journal’s website, and they allege that former Cardinals staffer Andre McGee paid Katina Powell, who is the author of the new book, for escorts for Louisville recruits and their fathers for four years.

Louisville said in a statement that it notified the NCAA of the allegations back in August when university officials first learned about this. The university also said it is investigating the situation.

Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino addressed the allegations in a press conference Friday.

“To say I’m shocked is an understatement,” Pitino said. “You know the allegations. Now we have to find the truth.”

Pitino said McGee, who was put on paid leave from his assistant coaching job at Missouri-Kansas City, denied the allegations.
