Two Steelers Footballs Reportedly Came In At 11.4, 11.8 PSI Vs. Giants

The NFL was quick to brush aside another potential Deflategate scandal involving the Pittsburgh Steelers, but according to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, that might’ve been a little premature.

The story started in Week 13 when the Steelers earned a 24-14 win over the New York Giants at Heinz Field. FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Sunday the Giants got suspicious and ended up inspecting two of the Steelers’ footballs they earned on turnovers, and both came in under the minimum PSI.

The Giants sent the footballs to the NFL — they confirmed this with Glazer — and the league released a statement Sunday saying the footballs were in compliance and that New York never filed a formal complaint. But Florio received the same news as Glazer, and a source even told him the footballs were well below the minimum PSI.

“The league moved very quickly to move forward on this to say that the Giants made no formal complaint about anything the Steelers did,” Florio said on NBC’s NFL pregame show Sunday night, via WEEI.com. “But I’m told what Jay Glazer reported is accurate: the Giants raised the concern, two footballs involved, I’m told, one was measured at 11.4 PSI, one was measured at 11.8 PSI by the Giants. The minimum is 12.5 PSI.

“I don’t expect any anything to come of this, but the Giants definitely let the NFL know about it.”

It’s not entirely surprising the NFL would try to downplay this, considering they spent tens of millions of dollars to investigate the New England Patriots. Still, we can’t imagine the Pats are too pleased with the league’s latest decision.
