Mark Sanchez’s Days As Broncos QB Likely Over Before They Really Begin

When the Denver Broncos traded for veteran quarterback Mark Sanchez in March, it underscored just how desperate the team was.

Probable future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning had ridden off into retirement following his Super Bowl 50 victory, and incumbent youngster Brock Osweiler opted for a better paycheck in Houston rather than taking a paycut to remain in Denver.

But Sanchez? Ever the professional, he has become a guy you like to have in the locker room, sure, but if he needs to take the field, you’re probably in trouble.

The defending Super Bowl champion Broncos apparently aren’t in that much trouble, as it seems Sanchez is on his way out the door. Second-year pro Trevor Siemian made headlines when he earned the start at QB in Week 3 of the preseason, and rookie Paxton Lynch was named the No. 2 QB for Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Sanchez never even so much as took a knee in the game, and he appears to be the odd man out.

Altitude reporter Vic Lombardi seems to believe it will happen sooner than later.

Sanchez could remain in Denver as the third-string QB, though it wouldn’t be shocking to see him turn down that offer in favor of a better roster spot elsewhere, should he be able to find one.

The Broncos can recoup $3.5 million of the $4.5 million they gave Sanchez if they cut him by Tuesday, but one thing is clear whether he remains in Denver or not: He’s not the temporary savior the Broncos hoped he could be six months ago.

Then again, there’s always a football team looking for a savior at quarterback. Just ask Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys.
