Adrian Peterson Injury: Vikings Star Tears Meniscus, Status Uncertain For Week 3

The Minnesota Vikings just can’t catch a break.

Only weeks after losing budding young quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a severe season-ending knee injury that nearly cost him his leg, Minnesota lost its All-Pro running back, Adrian Peterson, to an knee injury of his own.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer made a radio appearance on KFAN in Minneapolis on Monday and confirmed that Peterson suffered a torn meniscus during his team’s 17-14 Sunday night win over the Green Bay Packers. The Vikes haven’t ruled out Peterson for their Week 3 game against the Carolina Panthers.

Zimmer later told reporters that Peterson is “going through the evaluation process to figure out what the next procedure will be and the options that we have,” per NFL Media.

The good news for Minnesota is that as torn knee ligaments go, meniscus tears qualify among the least serious. Of course, Peterson’s previous injury history must be taken into account. The seven-time Pro Bowl back suffered a torn ACL and MCL in 2011, though he rebounded in 2012 to win his only MVP award.
