Could Isaiah Thomas Return To Celtics In Free Agency? Star Doesn’t Rule It Out

Isaiah Thomas had his best NBA seasons in Boston as a member of the Celtics. And even though he harbored some hard feelings toward the franchise after they traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving last offseason, the electric guard is open to wearing the green and white again.

Thomas, who was traded from the Cavs to the Los Angeles Lakers at the NBA trade deadline, held a question and answer session on Twitter on Sunday. When asked about potentially returning to the Celtics as a free agent this summer, he didn’t shut the idea down.

Now that would be something.

Thomas averaged 28.9 points for the C’s last season while leading them to the No. 1 overall seed in the Eastern Conference.

The 29-year-old likely will garner a one-year contract this offseason, as he continues to prove he’s all the way back from the right hip injury he suffered in his final season in Boston.

Would “The King in the Fourth” return to TD Garden on a team-friendly deal next season? While it seems doubtful, never say never with Danny Ainge and the Celtics.
