The New York Jets made a splash Saturday when they made a deal with the Indianapolis Colts to obtain the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

New York sent the No. 6 overall pick and three second-round picks to the Colts in return. The Jets’ decision to move into the top three signals the start of a quarterback arms race in the NFL, as New York plans to use the No. 3 overall selection on a quarterback, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

But which quarterback you ask? Cimini has a few ideas.

“The plan is to get a quarterback,” Cimini said on “SportsCenter.” ” … Their Plan A was to get Kirk Cousins. They thought they had a decent chance. They actually made him a better financial offer than the Vikings: three years, $90 million fully guaranteed. He said no to that. They switched immediately to their Plan B, which was sign Josh McCown, get Teddy Bridgewater in there and then put themselves in a position where they could get one of these potential franchise quarterbacks in the draft.

“They feel like they’re going to get one of the three guys they feel comfortable with,” Cimini continued. “We don’t know exactly who, but just from talking to people around the league who were familiar with the Jets’ thinking, I think the three guys they would be comfortable with would be Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen and Josh Allen. I think the one guy they might have some hesitancy with is Baker Mayfield. I think his height, only 6-feet tall, is a concern for them. It would be highly, highly unconventional to draft a 6-foot quarterback No. 3 in the draft.”

Can Darnold, Rosen or Allen be the guy to lead the Jets for the next 10 years? Todd Bowles and Co. certainly hope so.
