Elite athleticism, workable basketball skills and a professional’s grasp of the game give Wiggins the highest upside of any player in the draft. But he looked disinterested at times as a freshman, which raised red flags. Although Wiggins could finish at the rim with the best college players, he too often settled for lazy jump shots. He backed off defensively at times, even though he was a stellar defender when he wanted to be.
Which version is real? Is Wiggins a perennial All-Star who occasionally lost interest against overmatched opposition or is he simply an above-average talent who flashed superstar traits he probably won’t achieve in the NBA? Can he be motivated to bring it every night?
