Whichever team signs Grady Sizemore is trying to catch lightning in a bottle. The two-time All-Star hasn’t played in the majors since 2011 because of knee and back surgeries, so there’s really no way of telling how much he’ll be able to contribute at the major league level.
Sizemore is still just 31 years old, though, and he once was one of the game’s premier talents. While he’s not an ideal fit for the Red Sox given that he’s a left-handed hitter who fares much better against right-handed pitching, he represents a low-risk, high-reward option and could serve as center field insurance.
