The 20-year old Renteria became the Florida Marlins’ hero in Game 7 of the 1997 World Series. The bases were loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning and all the Marlins needed to win was a single. Cleveland Indians pitcher Charles Nagy was just one out away from ending the inning, but it didn’t happen. Renteria hit a single up the middle, scoring Craig Counsell. The Marlins became the first Wild Card team to win the World Series.
