Li Na Becomes First Chinese Player to Win Tennis Grand Slam Title (Photos) Li Na made history Saturday, becoming the first athlete from China to win a Grand Slam event by defeating Francesca Schiavone in the French Open final.

A full crowd was on hand at Roland Garros, many waving Chinese flags in support of Na, to see the oldest matchup of Grand Slam finalists since 1998. Na handled Schiavone 6-4, 7-6 (0) to win her fifth title overall.

Na's accomplishment mirrored that of Schiavone, who last year became the first Italian woman to win a Grand Slam singles title.
