Making his first start in the majors since 2007, Sergio Mitre filled in nicely for the injured Chien-Ming Wang with 5 2/3 respectable innings. Mitre allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits, striking out four and walking one to earn the win.
Orioles starter Rich Hill didn't fare as well, lasting just three-plus innings and allowing five earned runs. Hill allowed three hits in his outing, but was chased from the game after Robinson Cano's big two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Cano went 2-for-3 with the homer, two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Yankees offense. Alex Rodriguez drove in a pair of runs as well with a 1-for-2 night that also included two walks.
Alfredo Aceves and Phil Coke combined to pitch 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, and Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 27th save in 28 chances.
