As a team, Boston stranded 15 batters on base as they dropped a decision to the Yankees for the first time this season. The Yanks, who drew six walks, out-hit Boston 18-8 and were helped mightily by an eight-run fourth inning that featured a pair of three-run blasts.
Also in the ugly loss, shortstop Jed Lowrie was forced to leave the game early after experiencing a “stinger” in his forearm as he struck out swinging in the fourth inning. Red Sox trainers will evaluate Lowrie Thursday night and again Friday morning to determine the extent of his injury. Lowrie has already missed the majority of the season after undergoing wrist surgery in April.
