Former Boston College Linebacker Mark Herzlich Ready to Resume Classes

Although his football career came to a screeching halt this past spring, reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year Mark Herzlich has some unfinished business at Boston College: classes.

The former Eagles linebacker is returning to campus soon to take a few remaining courses and plans to graduate in December. Herzlich, who is enrolled in the Carroll School of Management, was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, this spring which ended his brilliant football career.

"I will be up in Boston on Friday or Saturday. I'm taking a couple of courses so I can graduate in December,'' Herzlich told the Boston Globe by phone from his home. "Then I will take some graduate courses. It will be good to get back.''

Coursework is not all Herzlich will be dealing with upon his return to the Hub. The 6-foot-4, 238-pounder will undergo more radiation treatments upon returning to Boston.

"I just finished my last radiation treatments,'' said Herzlich. "Right now, I'm feeling pretty good. I'll take a week off and then resume the [chemo and radiation] treatments up here at Dana Farber.''
