Randy Moss isn't just the Patriots' best receiver, he also happens to be one heck of a leader with plenty of giving qualities — as in advice and tips for those around him.
Over the weekend, head coach Bill Belichick explained how Moss is instrumental off the field and not just dominant on the gridiron. No. 81 has been an important source of reference for young players on both offense and defense.
"Randy’s very good with the younger players and even he and Tom [Brady] are always talking and the other receivers, Greg [Lewis], Joey [Galloway] and Wes [Welker]," Belichick said Sunday. "They talk a lot about different techniques and how a certain defender plays and how to play against him — those types of things."
With 12 seasons in the NFL under his belt, Moss is the fourth most experienced player on Patriots behind Joey Galloway (15 years), Tedy Bruschi (14 years) and Shawn Springs (13 years). He has played an equal number of years as Fred Taylor (12 years).
"I think that was reflected last year when Randy was elected captain, not because of his playing ability, but because of his leadership and the way he interacts with his teammates and supports [them] — not just the receivers but also the defenders," said Belichick. "They talk about it, too. They have a good working relationship. If our receiver tells our defensive back, ‘Hey, this is what you’re doing that’s giving me trouble or what you’re doing is making it easy for me,’ and the player can improve on the other side of the ball, ultimately, it improves him."
