The Red Sox activated right-handed relief pitcher Fernando Cabrera for Sunday night's game in the Bronx, while Enrique Gonzalez has been designated for assignment.
Cabrera, 27, owns a 1.69 ERA in 48 innings pitched for Triple-A Pawtucket this season, recording 20 saves in 20 opportunies. In his major league career, he is 8-7 with a 5.02 ERA for the Indians (2004-07) and Orioles (2007-08).
Gonzalez made his Red Sox debut Saturday, after Ramon Ramirez was ejected after hitting Alex Rodriguez with a pitch. Gonzalez gave up two runs on a Derek Jeter home run, pitching 1 2/3 innings against the Yankees. This year with Pawtucket, he went 7-10 with a 5.31 ERA.
