After eating up 6 2/3 innings on Tuesday night and five innings on Sunday night, Terry Francona‘s bullpen is gaining a much-needed arm in Billy Traber.
Traber, who turns 30 in September, has been called up from Triple-A Pawtucket. Outfielder Josh Reddick, who has hit .313 in four games with the Red Sox since being called up on July 31, has been sent down to make room for the left-handed specialist. To make room on the 40-man roster, the club designated infielder Gil Velazquez for assignment.
In 32 games (four starts) for the PawSox this season, Traber is 7-5 with a 3.32 ERA. In 96 career major league games, Traber owns a 12-14 record and a 5.54 ERA during stops with the Indians, Nationals and Yankees.
