Eagles’ Michael Vick Hoping to Prove Himself Against Chiefs on Sunday

This Sunday may mark the moment many NFL fans have been waiting for since 2007. Michael Vick will return to the gridiron.

Possibly.

The former Pro Bowler is eligible to play against Kansas City this weekend after sitting out the first two games of the 2009 regular season as part of his league penalty for his role in a dogfighting ring. Although Vick may not be tabbed to play in the place of an injured Donovan McNabb, he's plenty excited about the possibility.

"I've been watching football from afar the last two years," Vick told ESPN.com on Wednesday, "and this is a dream come true for me."

McNabb did not practice on Wednesday and missed Sunday's 48-22 loss to the Saints because of a broken rib; Kevin Kolb will most likely start in his place, and it is uncertain whether Jeff Garcia or Vick will serve as his backup.

"One thing we do know is I'm going to be dressed up, so that's a great opportunity," Vick told ESPN.com. "This is [head coach] Andy [Reid]'s team. He's a smart guy. He knows what to do and when he comes up with the game plan. If it doesn't include me, I'm cool. But I will make sure that mentally I'm aware of what's going on and I'm ready in case something happens. You never know what can happen."

Vick is expected to run the Wildcat offense when he does play; he got plenty of experience with it during his six seasons with the Falcons. He holds NFL records for the most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season (1,039) and his eight 100-yard games are the most by a quarterback.

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

"I was the Wildcat originator, so it's not foreign territory to me," Vick told the Web site. "It's just about making the right decisions and just playing football. It's almost like backyard ball, but it's become quite immense in this league now. Everybody's doing it, so I'm excited about my role."
