The Rangers got Marian Gaborik back before Monday's preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings, but lost Sean Avery to a knee injury during the morning skate prior to the game, the New York Daily News reports.
Avery collided with Ryan Callahan during the pregame skate and the knees of the two hit in open ice, sending Avery down for a few moments. He was examined by team assistant physician Dr. Anthony Maddalo in the locker room and later on by team physician and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Andrew Feldman, who made the diagnosis of a sprained knee.
"I am not sure how long," he'll be out, Rangers coach John Tortorella told the Associated Press. "It is a sprain so he will be out for a little bit. He will be out for a couple of days."
