Red Sox Resting Most Starters for Series Finale With Blue Jays

After clinching a postseason spot in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Terry Francona is giving his troops some rest. While the Blue Jays will send Roy Halladay to the hill, the Red Sox' lineup will more closely resemble one from March.

Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, Jason Bay, Victor Martinez, Jason Varitek, Jacoby Ellsbury and J.D. Drew are all out of Wednesday's lineup, as is Mike Lowell, who received a pair of injections in his hip on Monday.

The Red Sox' lineup is as follows:

1. Joey Gathright, CF
2. Josh Reddick, LF
3. Casey Kotchman, 1B
4. David Ortiz, DH
5. Rocco Baldelli, RF
6. George Kottaras, C
7. Alex Gonzalez, SS
8. Jed Lowrie, 3B
9. Chris Woodward, 2B

For many players, Wednesday's game will be a rare start for the Sox. Kottaras hasn't started  a game since July 28, while Woodward hasn't started since Aug. 13. Lowrie started the game on Sept. 26, but before that hadn't started since Aug. 6. Gathright has yet to start since joining the Sox in early September, and he only started one game this season for the Cubs.

Halladay has never faced Kottaras or Reddick. Some notable stats against Halladay:

Baldelli: 6-for-17 (.353), two home runs
Ortiz: 27-for-96 (.281), six homers, six doubles, seven walks
Gonzalez: 3-for-8 (.375)
Gathright: 1-for-16 (.063)
Lowrie: 0-for-6
