Yankees’ Ian Kennedy Throws First Simulated Game Since Surgery

New York's Ian Kennedy returned to the mound for his first baseball action since undergoing surgery to remove an aneurysm below his right biceps, according to ESPN.com.

The 23-year-old, who made his Yankees debut in 2007 and has since appeared in just 12 games for the big club, threw 22 of 35 pitches for strikes in two innings of a simulated game against New York minor leaguers on Tuesday. He told reporters that it is unlikely he will appear in a minor league playoff game this season, but he plans to participate in the Arizona Fall League later this month.

On Saturday, Kennedy is scheduled to throw 50 pitches in a three-inning simulated game.

This May, Kennedy — then a member of Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre — experienced numbness in his pitching hand and subsequently underwent surgery.
