Steve Begin was once a hated rival in Boston, but using hustle and grit, he’s already won over Bruins fans in his first month with the team.
Begin’s been the impetus behind the strong performance of the Bruins’ fourth line, and his efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. The 31-year-old Canadian has earned Arbella Player of the Week honors for his role in the Bruins’ earning three of a possible four points this week.
With their No. 1 center, Marc Savard, out for more than a month, the Bruins needed someone to step up. Begin did just that, netting the game-winning goal midway through the third period on Wednesday night against the Predators.
Begin found his way onto the scoresheet the next night in Philadelphia as well, tying the game at three goals apiece late in the second period. Though the Bruins eventually lost in a shootout, Begin’s goal helped give the Bruins a much-needed point in the standings.
The B’s sputtered a bit out of the gates, but Begin’s play has been the one constant that has yet to waver.
