Andy Pettitte Will Start Game 6 on Short Rest

The World Series has shifted back to New York, and one the pitchers responsible for creating the Yankees' most recent dynasty will get a chance to start another. Andy Pettitte was officially named the Game 6 starter for the Yankees by Joe Girardi on Tuesday, the Journal News reports.

With Girardi's decision to use only his best three starters during the series, Pettitte will make his second start against the Phillies after earning the win in Game 3.

The game's all-time winningest pitcher in the postseason, Pettitte will take his postseason career record of 17-9 and 3.88 ERA to the hill on Wednesday night in the Bronx, as the Yankees try to christen their new stadium with its first world championship.

In four starts this postseason, Pettitte is 3-0 with a 3.24 ERA. He has struck out 22 and walked only six. Pettitte pitched six innings against the Phillies, allowing five hits and four earned runs. The left-handed veteran struck out seven and did not issue a walk in the game.
