A report by the Post’s Mike Puma on Monday insists that Cashman has inquired about Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano. The Yanks are looking for a fourth hurler to come in behind CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte, and if they fail to land Zambrano via trade, they could find one in the free-agent pool that includes Joel Pineiro and Ben Sheets.
According to the report, the Cubs’ asking price for Zambrano — who was injured in 2009 — is very high. The Cubs hurler has a full no-trade clause and is set to earn over $53 million over the next three seasons.
