If you thought Sunday night’s 5-3 win over the Canadians was a miracle, just imagine how the country felt 30 years ago Monday.
On Feb. 22, 1980, a group of American college kids stole the nation’s heart when they took down the mighty Soviets 4-3 in the Lake Placid Olympic Games. Team USA, led by head coach Herb Brooks, would then go on to top Finland to take gold in the tournament.
Thirty years later, Team USA is off and running in a second miraculous Olympic performance, but nothing will ever equate to that stunning victory in Lake Placid.
