Dave Magadan's 2010 season is already off to a great start.
The Red Sox hitting coach will be inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame on July 1 in Lubbock, Texas.
Magadan played both first base and third base for the University of Alabama from 1981-1983. During the 1983 season, he was Baseball America's Player of the Year and won the Golden Spikes Award.
Magadan was the top vote-getter in this year's class, and his selection was an easy decision for Hall of Fame chairman Mike Gustafson.
"Dave Magadan was an overwhelming choice for this year’s class," Gustafson said. "He put up amazing numbers during his college career and will be a wonderful addition to the Hall of Fame."
Magadan played in 162 games in his Alabama career and batted .439 with 64 doubles, 14 home runs and 188 RBIs. His .439 batting average still ranks among the leaders in Division I baseball and remains the highest career average in SEC history.
The eight remaining members of this 2010 class include Arizona State shortstop Alan Bannister, Fresno State coach Bob Bennett, Louisiana State first baseman Eddy Furniss, Wichita State pitcher Don Heinkel, Michigan pitcher/outfielder George Sisler, North Carolina catcher B.J. Surhoff, Wake Forest second baseman Charles Teague and Texas pitcher Richard Wortham.
