Revolution Snap Seven-Match Winless Stream, Beat Red Bulls 3-2

FOXBORO, Mass. — Zach Schilawski's fifth goal of the season, a header on a cross from Shalrie Joseph, gave the New England Revolution a 3-2 victory over the short-handed New York Red Bulls on Saturday night.

New York was forced to play much of the second half without defender Carlos Mendes and midfielder Roy Miller, who were sent off with red cards. Mendes earned his in the 56th minute for a flagrant trip of Marko Perovic, and Miller in the 75th minute for a foul on Zak Boggs.

New England's victory snapped a seven-match (0-5-2) winless streak, during which the Revolution managed only four goals. Their first win since April 10 also extended their unbeaten streak against New York to 14 matches, going 8-0-6 over the run.

New York (5-5) suffered its fourth straight loss, allowing 11 goals over that span.

The Revolution (3-6-2) lost starting goaltender Preston Burpo in the 34th minute when he collided with Dane Richards, breaking his right fibula in two places.

Perovic scored his second goal of the season in the eighth minute, drilling a shot inside the penalty box on a feed from Joseph, before New York tied the score in the 20th when Seth Stammler curled a left-footed shot off the left wing just inside the far post.

The Revolution regained the lead at 2-1 in the 24th minute when New England defender Seth Sinovic's cross from the left wing was inadvertently headed into the net by Red Bulls defender Tim Ream. New York again had an answer, though, when Juan Pablo Angel scored his fifth of the season on a header off a cross from Danleigh Borman in the 49th minute.
