Jeremy Hermida Back in Lineup to Face Justin Masterson

Jeremy Hermida returns from a four-game layoff, one of several left-handed bats in the lineup for the Red Sox against Cleveland on Wednesday night.

Hermida, who suffered rib and forearm injuries in a collision with third baseman Adrian Beltre last Friday, will play left and bat eighth against former Boston hurler Justin Masterson.

The Sox will have five lefties facing Masterson, against whom left-handed bats have hit .370 this year.

One matchup to watch will be Masterson against Victor Martinez, whom the 6-foot-6 righty was traded for last summer along with two prospects.

Martinez is 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in his career against Masterson. However, Martinez is batting just .216 against right-handers this year.

The only other Red Sox starters with any experience against Masterson is Beltre and shortstop Marco Scutaro. They are a combined 1-for-11 when facing Cleveland's starter.

No Indians player in the starting lineup has garnered more than two at bats against Boston's Clay Buchholz, who is in search of his sixth straight win.
