Miguel Cotto Drops Bronx Bombs on Yuri Foreman at Yankee Stadium

Sparring under the bright lights of Yankee Stadium, Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto ended Yuri Foreman‘s night in the ninth round to secure the World Boxing Association’s super welterweight belt and his fourth championship in front of 20,272 fans.

Although it was Foreman’s first defeat, he has reason to smile as both he and Cotto join such boxing icons as Jack Dempsey, Max Schmeling, Sugar Ray Robinson, Rocky Marciano and Joe Louis — all of whom have headlined bouts at one of the Yankees’ stadiums. The last main event to take the Yankee pitch was between Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton in 1976.

From Belarus to Brooklyn by way of Israel, Foreman is now 28-1 while Cotto, who moved up a weight class for the fight, improves to 35-2.
