Fenway Park has been a venue for much more than baseball in the recent years, and on Tuesday night, it added one more title to the ever-growing list: movie theater.
That's because the oldest ballpark in baseball played host to the new movie The Town, which is set to hit theaters nationwide on Friday, Sept. 17.
The movie was a homecoming of sorts for one of the stars of the film, Ben Affleck, who grew up in nearby Cambridge, Mass.
Although The Town isn't a movie based on Affleck's beloved Red Sox, or even about baseball, it is set in the Boston area, and Affleck felt it best to bring a premiere back to Boston where much of the film was shot. Some scenes in the film take place at the ballpark.
Also in attendance for the red-carpet premiere were Blake Lively, Rebecca Hall, Jeremy Renner, Chris Cooper and Jon Hamm. Affleck's close personal friend and noted Red Sox fan Matt Damon was also in attendance for the premiere.
An impromptu movie screen was set up above the third-base dugout, where upwards of 1,700 fans were treated to an advanced showing of the film.
