The sale of Liverpool FC to New England Sports Ventures is proving to be more complicated than originally anticipated, as current co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. are at London's High Court on Tuesday. Royal Bank of Scotland, owners of the majority of the team's debt, is trying to force the two to sell the team to NESV.
The sale was made last week by Martin Broughton, who was put in charge of that task in April. Hicks and Gillett, however, tried to fire Broughton (as well as two board members who voted in favor of Broughton). RBS was granted a temporary injunction to prevent the firings, and the two sides are currently in a hearing.
