LaceDarius Dunn led Baylor’s basketball team to the elite eight last year — just a few years removed from the team being decimated by the Patrick Dennehy scandal.
Now, Dunn, a preseason candidate for the Wooden Award and NBA-caliber talent, is involved in a scandal of his own, CBSSports.com reports.
Dunn turned himself into authorities on Tuesday after being charged with a second-degree felony stemming from a Sept. 27 incident involving his girlfriend, Lacharlesia Edwards.
The Baylor star apparently broke Edwards’ jaw, which the police discovered when she was admitted to Hillcrest Hospital.
Edwards is not cooperating with investigators, but law states that authorities still can file charges given the circumstances.
According to FoxSports.com, Edwards’ father, Charles Edwards, also has said that it was an accident.
“She said it was an accident,” Edwards told FoxSports.com. “She said she sneaked up on him in the dark, and he hit her by mistake. It wasn’t a fight at all.
“She doesn’t want to press charges or anything like that. She’s torn up now that he’s been arrested.”
Edwards and Dunn have been dating since junior high school and have a 3-year-old son, Dillion, together.
“My daughter is much better,” Edwards continued. “She’s fine. She and I really both thought this had already been dropped.”
Coach Scott Drew has suspended Dunn from all basketball activities.
