Derek Anderson Explodes on Reporter Kent Somers When Asked About Smiling and Laughing on Sideline

The Arizona Cardinals got utterly embarrassed on Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers, losing 27-6 and essentially quitting in the second half. It was bad, and it was ugly.

Cardinals quarterback Derek Anderson — who didn't help much with his 16 completions on 35 pass attempts for 196 yards, no touchdowns and one interception — was seen at one point on the sideline talking and perhaps joking with teammate Deuce Lutui. The quarterback flashed a grin, leading to some criticism from ESPN color analyst  Jon Gruden . There's even visual evidence in this video.

Yet, when asked about that lighter moment after the game, Anderson said his conversations were private, that nothing was funny and that he wasn't laughing on the sidelines.

"It wasn't funny. I wasn't laughing about anything," he said. "I'm not laughing about it. You think this is funny? I take this [expletive] serious. Real serious. I put my heart and soul into this [expletive], every single week.

"I don't go out there and laugh. It's not funny. Nothing's funny to me. I don't want to go out there and get embarrassed on Monday Night Football, in front of everybody."

The postgame news conference turned into a Derek Anderson tirade, and the quarterback left the podium without taking any more questions.

It was a fairly entertaining moment, but still, it doesn't hold a candle to Dennis Green's meltdown in the annals of great Cardinals news conferences.
