Liverpool Fans in Uproar Over Boston Globe’s Reference of Hillsborough ‘Riot’

There are certain topics that invoke very serious emotion from Liverpool fans, and the tragedy at Hillsborough in 1989 is most certainly one of them.

Naturally, then, fans were outraged to see the incident described as a "riot" in a column in The Boston Globe this week. As noted by Liverpoolecho.co.uk, the story "provoked widespread anger among Liverpool FC fans" in England.

The story, written by Alex Beam, said: "Internet fan sites are still agonizing over a 21-year-old soccer riot that killed 96 people."

The Globe has since run a correction, changing the term from "riot" to "stadium disaster" and adding a note that official investigations put most of the blame "on poor crowd control and inadequate stadium design."
