In order to acquire All-Star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres, the Red Sox had to give up quite a bit. According to Baseball America, the Sox have apparently stockpiled San Diego's pipeline to the big leagues.
The publication releases an annual list of the top 10 prospects in each organization, and on Monday, it released the Padres' list. For Red Sox fans, there are plenty of familiar names.
The list is headlined by Boston's former No. 1 prospect, pitcher Casey Kelly. He's not alone on a list that is top-heavy with former Red Sox property. First base prospect Anthony Rizzo is ranked second, and outfielder Reymond Fuentes follows close behind at No. 4.
Baseball America also lists what they feel could be the Opening Day lineup for the 2014 season. Rizzo is slottted at first base, while Fuentes is listed as the center fielder. Kelly is expected to be the No. 2 starting pitcher by then, behind 2010 standout Mat Latos.
