Deadspin’s Tale of Mark Sanchez Romance Saga With 17-Year-Old Girl Falls Short of Being Scandalous

Last Friday, Deadspin.com promoted an upcoming story involving Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez's relationship with a 17-year-old girl. It tried to build drama around something the site hoped would be scandalous, but after the story was released on Tuesday, it quite clearly was rather mild.

Sanchez went out on New Year's Eve. Young lady talked to Sanchez. Sanchez says, "You're 17." She tells him 17-year-olds can legally have relationships with adults in New York. The two become friends. They text. They date. They have somewhat of a relationship. Then it ends.

People can criticize a 24-year-old millionaire quarterback for having relationships with 17-year-olds all they want, but it's not illegal, and it's not even as weird as Rex Ryan's off-field hobbies.

It's the same site, remember, that last month tried to stir up Sanchez's sexual assault allegations from 2006, so maybe there's a grudge there. Either way, this one fails to even register on the controversy meter.
