Tight End Jeremy Shockey Released by Saints After Three Seasons

In the end, the Jeremy Shockey era in New Orleans didn't go quite as planned.

The Saints released Shockey on Tuesday following three injury-plagued seasons in New Orleans. The Saints acquired the tight end in 2008 from the Giants, but a relative inability to stay healthy was the main storyline of Shockey's tenure with the Saints. In three years, he started only 34 games.

"I'd like to thank Jeremy for the contributions he made to our team during his time in New Orleans," Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said in a statement. "These decisions are never easy to make and we wish him the best in the future."

Shockey was part of New Orleans' Super Bowl run in 2009-10. The 30-year-old actually caught a touchdown pass in Super Bowl XLIV against the Colts.
