Brad Marchand Suspended Two Games for Hit on R.J. Umberger

The Black and Gold will be down a man until Tuesday.

On Thursday afternoon, the Bruins announced that forward Brad Marchand has been suspended for two games.

Marchand hit the Blue Jackets' R.J. Umberger in the head from behind during the second period of the B's win in Columbus on Tuesday night.

Marchand, who was the fourth Bruin to go before the NHL board this season, will miss Boston's Thursday night game against the Predators in Nashville and Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

The rookie winger has 19 goals and 35 points in 66 games. On Wednesday, he was surprised that the play was drawing so much attention.

"It completely caught me off-guard," he told NESN on Wednesday. "I came in and all the guys said it was all over NHL Network. I had no idea. I didn't think it was that bad of a hit. At the time, there was no talk about it after the game, so initially, it couldn't have been that big of a deal."
