Liverpool Live Blog: Reds Fail to Score at Anfield, Crash Out of Europa League 1-0 on Aggregate to Braga

Full time, 0-0: Wilson wins a foul in midfield — everybody goes forward.

It bounces around the box dangerously before being partially cleared.

Carragher sends it back forward, and Braga takes it away from Kuyt. They run forward with numbers on the counter, but Kaka concedes a goal kick with just seconds left.

Reina's ball forward goes to Braga, but they concede possession in midfield.

Meireles chips it forward, but to no end. The whistle blows. Liverpool crashes out of the Europa League by failing to score at Anfield.

Kuyt is again whistled for offside — Braga will take this as slowly as possible.

Meyong takes a shot from distance — too high.

Meireles wins a free kick in the middle of the pitch at the edge of the final third — nine men are forward.

The set piece is greatly chipped — Ngog falls just inches short of flicking it on for the goal — he was free. Goal kick.

Liverpool is now rushing forward desperately, but they give up a counter, which results in a free kick for Salino.

The free kick comes to nothing, and Reina sends it forward. Liverpool is now in kick-it-forward mode.

They are forced to send it back to Reina repeatedly, and Meyong wins a foul in midfield off another clearance.

Liverpool continues to see all of the ball, but not much in the way of threat has been generated in the past couple of minutes.

Ngog is pushed over in the corner, but nothing is called, and Meireles is booked for complaining.

Kuyt does well to beat defenders in the corner on the left, and he sends a cross in dangerously. It is partially cleared, but eventually results in a corner.

Meireles' corner is well taken and finds Carroll. His header is on target but deflects off Kuyt. Off the partial clearance, the ball falls for Skrtel in space. He shoots, but Artur makes himself big and saves very well — so close.

81', 0-0: A throw in finds Ngog in a dangerous area. He turns at the top of the box and shoots, but Artur saves pretty easily — Ngog has done well thus far.

Johnson makes a run forward and finds Ngog, but he can't concoct a final ball from the top of the area.

Liverpool keeps the pressure on, but Kuyt's shot from range is well off target.

Kuyt sends a nice diagonal for Meireles, and he wins a corner on the right.

It is partially cleared but falls to Spearing beyond the area. He shoots — well off target.

Liverpool makes two substitutions, but just in their wake, Alan makes a dangerous run on the right, crossing in before a Spearing clearance.

Going the other way, Liverpool creates danger immediately, with Ngog making a run at the top of the area. At the last moment, he loses out to a challenge — well defended.

Another long ball is cleared for a throw to Liverpoool. Wilson sends a ball in for Carroll, who gets his head on it, but it goes for a goal kick.

Yellow Card — Vandinho — time wasting as he comes off.

Salino is tackled poorly by Skrtel at the edge of the final third on the Braga right, and the Slovakian is booked.

The kick is well taken low, and is on target — nearly beating Reina.

Liverpol thereafter builds from midfield, and a ball frees Johnson down the right. He makes a great run and crosses into the box with Meireles making a run, but he just can't quite get there — goal kick, but a good chance.

69', 0-0: Liverpool wins possession in the final third off a Carroll header down, but Braga quickly wins possession and has a run on the counter. Carragher comes to the rescue, winning a throw as Braga had numbers.

Cole finds Carroll in space, but he was just offside — Braga is holding lines very well.

Liverpool again is forced to longball to an offside player, as Kuyt is flagged on a delivery from Carragher.

Carragher wins a throw deep on the Liverpool left, and it is retained by Johnson for a run forward. He finds Cole, who loses out for a clearance back to the Liverpool defense.

65', 0-0: Paulao pushes Carroll in the back in midfield for a foul.

The free kick is well taken, and bounces around the area, but it eventually falls to an offside Carroll.

A scrappy spell in midfield eventually sees Liverpool win the ball, and Johnson has a deep throw, but Braga clears well.

Meireles is then called for a foul in midfield.

Braga comes forward on the left, but the cross in is too high for Alan. Liverpool regains the ball, but Wilson gives it away with a wayward longball.

61', 0-0: The Reds keep the pressure on, and Kuyt sends a cross in for an unmarked Meireles. He has a free header, but he can't remotely get it on target — he was too far from goal to threaten anyway.

Braga wins a foul in midfield, as Meireles takes Alan down. It eventually results in a Braga corner, which is partially cleared before a deflection nearly results in a Braga goal, as Alan somehow ended up in front of goal with the flag down.

Braga again press forward, but Salino gives it right to Reina.

57', 0-0: Liverpool wins a throw deep in the Braga half, but after it bounces around the box, Braga clears.

Liverpool comes back forward, and a longball falls for Maxi on the left of the area, but he can't get the shot on target — would've been tough.

The Reds keep possession thereafter — they are having much better of the ball at the present, but a through ball for Carroll ends up in Artur's hands.

Paolo Cesar wins a free kick in the Liverpool half, but his effort is blocked away by Meireles.

Cole, Kuyt and Carroll again combine rather dangerously, but Carroll is again slightly offside on the through ball.

A great ball forward for Carroll down the left results in a one on one between Carroll and Rodriguez, and Carroll is shown a yellow for taking kick at him after losing out. Paulao also gets a yellow for the ensuing tustle.

49', 0-0: Braga begins the half in possession, but their incursion down the right is cleared when they reach the box.

Liverpool builds from the back, with Carroll, Kuyt and Cole combining, but Cole's cross is too high even for Carroll.

The Reds keep the pressure on, but Cole finally loses out on the right.

The teams exchange possession disjointedly thereafter, and Braga wins a throw on the left in the final third. Liverpool clears, and Artur has a goal kick.

Half, 0-0: Liverpool maintains possession, and a cross is sent in for Carroll well by Maxi. Carroll gets to it, but he strikes it past the far post for a goal kick.

A through ball for Salino is a dangerous one, but his touch is too heavy and he dives accordingly. Nothing is called.

Meireles is fouled in the Liverpool half, and the Reds rush forward thereafter as the half winds down.

Maxi fouls Alan in midfield, and the halftime whistle blows.

44', 0-0: Carragher takes the free kick from midfield, cleared back to Reina by Braga. Liverpool has some possession in the Braga half thereafter, and Meireles and Alan collide, but nothing is called.

 Eventually, a ball from Wilson is cleared by Paulao for a corner — Cole was near.

Meireles' corner is again good, but cleared.

Now, Kuyt is down in the area — another clash of heads.

Liverpool creates some nice ball movement in the final third thereafter, but a wayward pass by Meireles is cut out eventually.

A nice ball forward for Johnson results in a good run, but his touch lets him down.

40', 0-0: A nice ball forward from Wilson to Kuyt is wasted by an attempted flick inside to Meireles — it got nowhere near its intended target.

Liverpool comes forward again down the right, but switch it to Wilson in space.

The cross is sent in, and Carroll and Artur collide — foul by Carroll, and Artur down on the ground. He eventually gets up and is fine.

A longball forward by Reina is cleared, but Meireles is fouled in midfield, and he's shaken up. Paulao is also now writhing in pain with a head injury — all sorts of physical play.

36', 0-0: Liverpool finally retains possession, building from the back, but they give it right back to Braga, and the Portugese side again roves deep into the final third.

Lucas is called for a foul on the left of the area — very dangerous spot.

The set piece is partially cleared, but Braga retain possession in midfield. Another cross is sent in, but to no end, and Liverpool wins a throw in the Braga half on the left.

Liverpool retreats to their own half, and they now are struggling to find options forward. A longball for Carroll doesn't get there.

32', 0-0: A tangle in the left attacking corner for Braga looks like a Johnson free kick, but it is instead given as a Braga throw.

Liverpool eventually clears to midfield, but Braga maintains possession.

The Reds seem to have lost their way in possession of late, being too direct and allowing Braga space in midfield.

Alan again roves in from the right, and he wins a corner on another deflected shot.

The corner goes harmlessly for a goal kick.

The the teams thereafter exchange possession in midfield.

28', 0-0: A period of disjointed play sees headers sending the ball bouncing around the pitch until Braga again creates well up the right. After a poor clearance, Lima sends a strike, deflected for a corner.

Reina punches the coner away, and Kuyt gets to it and sends it up for Cole, who is fouled at midfield.

Liverpool comes up the right, but Meireles' cross goes to Artur.

24', 0-0: Johnson wins another corner, but Carroll commits a foul at the far post — he did go down.

Joe Cole runs down a longball in the corner, but he loses out for a Braga throw. Eventually, it is sent back to Artur.

Braga again comes down the right through Alan, and they win a throw in the final third. It is cleared, but Kuyt is called offside on the counter.

20', 0-0: Liverpool threatens well in the left corner, but Wilson's cross in is claimed easily by Artur.

Carroll gets to another longball , but his header down goes to Braga.

Maxi is fouled in midfield, and Liverpool establish numbers forward before another longbal lgoes to Carroll, cleared by Alan.

Braga comes up the right, winning a throw, but again retreating to midfield. Finally, Alan makes a run from the right, shooting from above the area, but his effort is wide of the far post.

16', 0-0: Braga comes forward down the left, winning a deep throw, but they are forced to retreat to midfield and lose possession — not much forward from the Portugese side thus far.

A Liverpool longball gives it back to Braga, and a long range effort by Lima tests Reina, but he saves.

The Reds send a series of longballs forward — they've become somewhat direct of late.

12', 0-0: Liverpool wins a foul just in the Braga half, and it is flicked behind by Braga for a corner.

The corner is well taken, but Johnson's header is well off target.

Braga wins a foul in midfield off a Liverpool throw on the left.

A decent Braga attack leads to a through ball being collected easily by Reina.

Skrtel sends a nice diagonal, which leads to a great attack with Kuyt, Maxi and Carroll — but Carroll was slightly offside in the box.

8', 0-0: Braga has another dangerous free kick in the final third, but it is cleared after presenting little danger.

After a long spell holding at the back, a ball is sent forward for Carroll, but he is just offiside.

Liverpool create a great spell of pressure after Carroll gets a flick down in the box. Cole puts a strong shot on target, saved by Artur, but the rebound falls to Carroll. It is deflected behind for a corner.

Meireles takes the corner, and Carroll heads it just wide.

4', 0-0: Lima goes down in the Liverpool half with a minor scrape right off the kick. The piece is taken well, and Reina is lucky to get there ahead of the free runner — nervy start.

Liverpool moves the ball up the right well, resulting in a low cross cleared well by Braga.

A longball forward for Kuyt results in an offside flag.

Another longball is sent for Carroll, but he can't quite get to it and it is collected by Artur.

A foul in midfield results in a Cole through pass for Kuyt, but it is slightly too heavy.

3:30 p.m. ET: Liverpool's task this Thursday evening is a simple one: win by more than one goal. After surrendering a 1-0 loss in Portugal in the first leg of this Europa League round of 16 tie, Liverpool now cannot win if with a tie or a one-goal victory — unless they take a 1-0 lead all the way to penalties and win on kicks.

Kenny Dalglish's side will again be short-handed at Anfield, with Luis Suarez ineligible and Steven Gerrard remains out, but otherwise, the side being fielded will be as strong as possible. Andy Carroll will be making his first start, paired up top with Dirk Kuyt, while just about every other first-teamer is in the lineup as well.

Still, it will be an uphill battle for Liverpool. They looked at a loss for ideas in the first leg and will have to win by a 2-goal margin against a disciplined, counter-attacking Braga side.
