Kurt Warner Slights Cam Newton, Doesn’t Think Draft’s First Overall Selection Is Worth Pick

With the first pick in the draft, the Carolina Panthers answered the biggest question of the draft by selecting Cam Newton.

The reception from the media has been lukewarm at best, as analysts from around the country, including former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner, don’t believe that the national champion has what it takes to cut it in the NFL, according to NFL.com.

“I don’t think he’s a franchise quarterback, definitely not at this time,” Warner said. “It has yet to be seen whether he will get there, but I think it will be very, very difficult.”

Many called for Carolina to pick a lineman for the future, but the Panthers felt the need to grab Newton while they could.

“I think he has too much work to do,” the former QB added. “Maybe it’s the pick they had to make, but I don’t know if it was the right pick for the Panthers.”
