Chicago sports anchor Daryl Hawks was found dead Thursday morning in his Atlanta hotel room. He was 38.
According to The Associated Press, Hawks was in Atlanta to cover the Eastern Conference semifinals between the Bulls and Atlanta Hawks for WMAQ-TV in Chicago.
According to a WMAQ report, hotel workers found Hawks in his room at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center at 9:30 a.m. after he did not respond to his wake-up call.
Police say Hawks was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Foul play was not suspected in the death.
“Daryl was a great member of our sports team, and was so excited about covering the Bulls during this playoff run,” station manager Frank Whittaker said.
Hawks, a native of Buffalo, N.Y, was an ex-Marine and three-time Emmy winner.
