On Saturday, Beckett stifled New York’s lineup by tossing six shutout innings. The righthander allowed just four hits and two walks in the outing while striking out nine. Thursday’s performance against Detroit was almost as impressive. After letting up a run in the second, Beckett held the Tigers scoreless through the next four innings and left the game with 3-1 lead. The bullpen could not hold on, however, resulting in the tough-luck no decision.
Beckett’s record sits at a misleading 3-1 on the season, despite a 1.73 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 57.1 innings of work. His outings against the Yankees and Tigers — which included a 0.75 ERA in a combined 12 innings — were enough to earn him Amica Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time.
