Report: Yankees May Reconsider Jorge Posada’s Future With Team If He Doesn’t Start Hitting

The Jorge Posada dilemma in New York continues to look like it's on a collision course to what could ultimately be a very messy divorce.

ESPN.com reports that the Yankees may start to reconsider the designated hitter's future if his performance doesn't improve by the All-Star break.

This all comes on the heels of Posada's decision to ask out of the New York lineup prior to the Yankees' game on Saturday night with the Red Sox. Posada refused to play after manager Joe Girardi dropped him to ninth in the batting order.

The Yankees have reportedly said there has been "zero discussion" internally about releasing Posada right now, but that could obviously change if he keeps struggling at the plate.

Posada wasn't in the lineup on Wednesday night against the Orioles opposite tough left-hander Zach Britton. Posada has struggled mightily hitting from the right side of the plate this season (0-for-24), and it seems apparent that Girardi is now unwilling to use Posada at DH against lefties.

The 39-year-old is hitting just .174 overall this season.

The report points out that while Posada is making $13 million this year, if the Yankees release him following the All-Star break, they would only lose $6 million.
